The Irish Times reported in April that Merck KGaA opened a €55 million ($63 million) manufacturing and R&D facility at its site in Cork, Ireland. The facility will produce specialty membrane and chromatography media products.

BIA Separations named Nilsan Nishotech Systems as a new distributor for India.

In June, protein chromatography firm Practichem named Dr. Vikas Padhye as president. He was previously with Teledyne Isco.

Product Introductions

JASCO launched the LC-4000 (U)HPLC systems for conventional HPLC (500 bar), rapid HPLC (700 bar) and UHPLC (1300 bar). They feature flow rates up to 50 mL/min. and a new solvent delivery mechanism.

Shimadzu introduced in March the Nexera-I MT UHPLC system, featuring enhanced functionality to support the transfer of existing HPLC methods to UHPLC while assuring cross compatibility. Dual flow lines allow the system to run both HPLC and UHPLC analyses.

Waters released the CORTECS C8 and CORTECS Phenyl analytical columns, available in 1.6 µm and 2.7 µm particle sizes.

AkzoNobel launched the Kormasil ClassicShell family of columns, packed with 2.5 µm solid core particles.

Phenomenex introduced the Luna Omega 1.6 µm columns for UHPLC, containing a modified UHPLC silica particle architecture.

In April, Phenomenex launched the Luna Omega 1.6 µm Polar C18 stationary phase for UHPLC, featuring the ability to get combined retention of polars and nonpolars and 100% aqueous stability.

Knauer introduced in April the AZURA RID 2.1L refractive index detector, designed for use in analytical HPLC and GPC.

Thermo Fisher Scientific released the Thermo Scientific POROS CaptureSelect AAV8 and AAV9 Affinity Resins for the purification of adeno-associated virus types 8 and 9. The company also released the Thermo Scientific POROS MabCapture A Select Resin, which combines high-throughput purification performance at a lower price.

In May, Thermo Fisher Scientific introduced the Thermo Scientific DNAPac RP columns for separating single- and double-stranded DNA fragments using reversed-phase HPLC and LC/MS. Thermo Fisher also released the Thermo Scientific MAbPac RP Column, which is targeted fro MS and UV detection.

In June, DataApex released Clarity 7.0 CDS, featuring a reorganized installation structure.

GE Healthcare Life Sciences introduced the Superdex 75 10/300 GL SEC columns for characterization of proteins with molecule weights of Mr 3000–70,000. It is designed for 25–500 µL sample volumes.
