Malvern Acquires Viscotek
The acquisition provides Malvern with related technologies, especially for polymer analysis, a growing opportunity for the company. Malvern specializes in particle size analyzers for laboratory and process applications and also offers rheometers and viscometers. In 2006, Malvern purchased Spectral Dimensions, a maker of NIR chemical imaging systems.
Malvern, UK 1/17/08—Malvern Instruments, a Spectris company, has acquired Viscotek, a provider of chromatography and viscometry products for the characterization of natural and synthetic polymers and proteins. Founded in 1984 and headquartered in Houston, Texas, Viscotek offers systems for gel permeation chromatography, flow injection polymer analysis and dilute solution viscosity. “Viscotek has a long-established reputation for innovation and quality, and there is a close and complementary fit between the Viscotek product range and Malvern’s, for both protein and polymer applications,” stated Paul Walker, managing director of Malvern Instruments. “This acquisition will increase the characterization capabilities of Malvern’s existing nanometrology product lines.” Viscotek management will remain with the company, which will continue to operate under the Viscotek name.
