Merck Millipore Makes First Acquisition
Merck stated that Beijing Skywing Technology’s access to the Chinese biopharmaceutical market will also benefit Merck Millipore’s chromatography media and filtration device sales. The Process Solutions business unit represented about 40% of Merck Millipore’s third-quarter 2010 sales, or €230 million ($177 million = €0.77 = $1).
Darmstadt, Germany 1/5/11—Merck KGaA has acquired 100% of the share capital of Beijing Skywing Technology for CYN 120 million ($18 million = CNY 6.60 = $1). Beijing Skywing Technology supplies cell-culture media products, related technical services and bioreactors for the Chinese biopharmaceutical industry. “These capabilities will enable Merck Millipore Process Solutions to strengthen the upstream processing offer to customers in China so that they can manufacture biopharmaceuticals safely and efficiently,” stated Burghard Freiberg, head of the Business Field Pharm Chemicals Solutions of Merck Millipore. Based in Beijing’s Changping district, Beijing Skywing Technology has 80 employees.
