Product Introductions

Thermo Fisher Scientific launched in October the Thermo Scientific NanoDrop One and NanoDrop OneC UV-Vis microvolume spectrophotometers, featuring Acclaro Sample Intelligence technology, which allows identification of sample contaminants.

Datacolor launched its 800 and 500 series spectrophotometers for color measurement, featuring a new color LCD screen to display instrument settings and conditions.

Shimadzu Scientific Instruments introduced the LABNIR functional NIR system for multichannel, optical measurements of blood oxygen level–dependent signals that originate in the cerebral cortex.

Bio-Rad Laboratories released a new version of its KnowItAll spectroscopy software, featuring “Optimized Corrections” to find the optimal match between the query and each reference spectrum. It also includes two new software applications: KnowItAll QC Expert and KnowItAll Deformulation Expert.

Mettler-Toledo introduced the compact UV/Vis Excellence spectrometers, consisting of the UV5, UV7, UV5Bio and UV5Nano. They incorporate FastTrack technology, which comprises modern fiber optics in combination with array detection and a Xenon flash lamp, resulting in a one-second full-spectrum scan.

In November, Merck KGaA released the Spectroquant Prove spectrophotometer for analysis of waste water, drinking water, process water and beverages. The Spectroquant Prove 100 performs Vis measurements, the Prove 300 performs UV/Vis analyses, and the Prove 600 features high-end UV/Vis optics.

Renishaw announced that its inVia confocal Raman microscope now connects to Bruker’s Dimension Icon AFM. A flexible arm links the two instruments.

McPherson introduced the 248/310 high-energy XUV spectrometer for the rapid analysis of spectral light in the 1–300 nm wavelength region.
