Oerlikon Leybold Vacuum to Be Sold

Both companies are providers of vacuum pumps for laboratory applications and pumps for use as components of analytical instruments, including diaphragm and turbomolecular pumps, respectively. In 2014, Atlas Copco acquired vacuum pump manufacturer Edwards.

Pfaffikon, Switzerland 11/20/15; Stockholm, Sweden 11/20/15—Technology firm Oerlikon has agreed to sell its Leybold Vacuum business to industrial tools provider Atlas Copco for CHF 525 million ($515 million = CHF 1.02 = $1) in cash. The business generated annual revenues of CHF 390 million ($415 million = CHF 0.94 = $1) as of June 30 and has 1,600 employees. Application areas include automotive, metallurgy, microchip coating and analytical instrument manufacturing. “Leybold will strengthen our technology platform for superior vacuum solutions,” stated Nico Delvaux, president of Atlas’s Compressor Techniques business. The acquisition is scheduled to close by the middle of next year.
