PerkinElmer Acquires MS Technology
The acquisition provides PerkinElmer with electrospray ion source technology, which will enable the company to enter the LC/MS market and gain a larger presence in end-markets such as food analysis. Analytica’s products include an Atmospheric Pressure Ionization (API)-TOF spectrometer and API single quadrupole MS, as well as API sources, inlet probes, controllers and vacuum systems. PerkinElmer currently offers single quadrupole MS systems.
Waltham, MA 5/5/09—PerkinElmer has acquired Analytica of Branford, a provider of MS and ion source technology, for approximately $24.0 million in cash. “The acquisition of Analytica will allow us to offer our customers access to critical technologies such as time-of-flight and quadrupole mass spectrometers and new ion sources that provide more complete information as well as better throughput,” commented Richard Begley, PhD, president of Analytical Sciences at PerkinElmer. Craig Whitehouse, founder and former president of Analytica, will oversee PerkinElmer’s MS R&D operations. PerkinElmer will maintain Analytica’s manufacturing operations in Shelton, Connecticut, and its facility in Branford, Connecticut, which will be used for R&D.
