PerkinElmer Announces Reorganization

Waltham, MA 9/26/16—PerkinElmer has announced a reorganization of its business segments (Human Health, Environmental Health), effective October 3. The Diagnostics business, consisting of the reproductive health, emerging market diagnostics solutions and applied genomics, will become a new business segment. Prahlad Singh will be named senior vice president and president, Diagnostics. The remainder of businesses will be combined to form the Discovery & Analytical Solutions business. Jim Corbett will be named executive vice president and president of the business. “We are excited about taking the next step in our strategic evolution to drive increasing profitable growth and advance our mission of innovating for a healthier world,” stated PerkinElmer Chairman and CEO Robert Friel. “These organizational changes will accelerate our application and technology development efforts for the benefit of PerkinElmer’s customers as we expand our capabilities to provide more integrated solutions that address critical needs around the globe.”

Mr. Singh told IBO that the automation and microfluidics product lines, previously part of the Research unit, will move into the newly created Applied Genomics group within the Diagnostics business, that “brings together the Company’s genomics-focused research and clinical assets”. He added, “The Applied Genomics portfolio provides an integrated ‘sample to sequencer’ workflow to help NGS researchers translate assays into clinical applications.” Regarding how this change will help the company better serve the clinical market, he told IBO, “With Applied Genomics, PerkinElmer is now better positioned for growth in next generation DNA sequencing, where the fastest growing segment is clinical applications.” According to an SEC filing, Jon DiVincenzo, senior vice president and president, Environmental Health, ended his employment with the company on September 30.
