PerkinElmer Sells US Prenatal Screening Laboratory Services Business
Eurofins stated that the acquisition expands the genetic testing segment of its specialty clinical diagnostic testing business. In 2014, PerkinElmer closed Signature Genomics (see IBO 4/30/14), another prenatal testing services business, also citing the reimbursement environment. The company continues to expand its prenatal testing operations outside the US.
Waltham, MA 4/25/16; Luxembourg 4/25/16—PerkinElmer announced that it has sold its US prenatal screening lab services business, PerkinElmer Labs/NTD, to testing firm Eurofins Scientific for an undisclosed amount. Based in Melville, New York, with 80 employees, PerkinElmer Labs/NTD generated 2015 revenues of $20 million. ”Recent changes to US health care reform continue to drive the consolidation of diagnostics testing toward broader service providers,” commented Prahlad Singh, president of Diagnostics at PerkinElmer. “Outside the US, we will continue to provide kits, technologies and services through a variety of channels focused on improving health outcomes for babies and expectant mothers.” The sale is not expected to have any material effect on PerkinElmer’s 2016 EPS.
