Roche and DNA Electronics Develop Semiconductor-Based Sequencing
DNA Electronics licensed its intellectual property to Ion Torrent in August (see IBO 9/15/10). DNA Electronics is a provider of disposable silicon chip-based solutions for real-time gene sequence detection at point-of-care.
Branford, CT 11/01/10—Roche’s 454 Life Sciences has exclusively partnered with DNA Electronics to develop a low-cost, high-throughput DNA sequencing system, which will allow a transition from optical detection to inexpensive, highly scalable electrochemical detection, according to Roche. “We’re pleased to work together with DNA Electronics, the inventors of ISFET [ion sensitive field effect transistor] DNA sequencing technology, to bring the benefits of semiconductors to the field of sequencing,” said Christopher McLeod, 454 Life Sciences president and CEO.
