Thermo Makes Second Australian Acquisition

In 2009, Thermo Fisher Scientific acquired Biolab, a laboratory products distributor for the scientific, environment and health care markets in Australia and New Zealand, for AUD $175 million ($120 million) (see IBO 4/30/09). Biolab was integrated into Thermo Fisher’s Laboratory Products and Services Segment.

Waltham, MA 11/30/10—Thermo Fisher Scientific has definitively agreed to acquire Lomb Scientific, a provider of laboratory chemicals, consumables and instruments in Australia and New Zealand. Financial details were not disclosed. Lomb had 2009 revenues of AUD $34 million ($27 million = AUD 1.28 = $1) and has approximately 100 employees. “The addition of Lomb Scientific reinforces our commitment to expand in growing Asia Pacific markets,” commented Thermo Fisher Scientific President and CEO Marc N. Casper. The business will join Thermo Fisher’s Laboratory Products and Services and its Analytical Technology segments.
