In 2014, CambTek named the following exclusive distributors: Pragolab for the Czech and Slovak Republics, Synersy for France and ITS Sciences for South Korea.

In February, Agilent Technologies agreed to comarket CambTEK’s Rapid Extraction System sample preparation technology with an assortment of its liquid-phase separation, life science and chemical-analysis products.

Under an OEM agreement, Gerstel will use Spark Holland’s dried blood spot (DBS) technology and DBS Autosampler to develop and market a fully integrated automated DBS-SPE system with a 96–350 card capacity.

Covaris will open a European subsidiary, based in the UK, in May.

Product Introductions

Protea Biosciences introduced in January the Gel Protein Recovery GRP-850 system for efficient recovery of gel-separated intact proteins through a multiplexed, automated, microfluidics chip–based process. It is sold with kits designed for specialized downstream MS applications.

In February, Covaris launched the truXTRAC High-Throughput FFPE DNA Extraction & Purification Kit, which processes 96 samples in a microplate format.

Sage Science introduced the SageELF (Electrophoretic Lateral Fractionator) system for DNA and protein fractionation, which generates 12 contiguous fractions from whole DNA or protein samples.

Thermo Fisher Scientific released the Thermo Scientific Dionex Polymeric SolEx SPE Cartridges for the AutoTrace 280 SPE system. The phases can also be used with other systems.

In March, MO BIO Laboratories released the BiOstic FFPE Tissue RNA Isolation Kit, which uses no xylene or other toxic solvents.

Pressure Biosciences introduced the Barocycler HUB880 with an extended operating range of 1,000–100,000 psi.

AMSBIO released the super-paramagentic nanoparticle–based ClioCell, an ex-vivo device for the removal of dying and dead cells. It is made by Pharmacells.

Promega launched in March the Maxwell 16 LEV RNA FFPE Kit for RNA isolation from mammalian FFPE tissue samples. It is specifically designed for RNA from 5 µm sections of FFPE samples.

Bioo Scientific introduced the AflaPure Aflatoxin Total and AflaPure Aflatoxin M1 Column Kits, calling them the first commercial immunoaffinity columns for aflatoxin enrichment designed for regeneration between uses.

PerkinElmer introduced the Titan MPS Microwave Sample Preparation System for pressure digestion of a broad range of samples. The top-loading system holds 8 or 16 reusable vessels.
