Thermo Adds to Cole-Parmer Business
Cole-Parmer, which was acquired by Fisher Scientific in 2001 (see IBO 9/15/01), specializes in instruments for temperature measurement and control, electrochemistry, and fluid handling, among other areas. Its catalog features more than 60,000 products. Davis Inotech stated that it will focus on calibration service solutions. Last year, Davis Inotech acquired GE Instrumentation Services, making it, “the largest provider of calibration, repair and certification of test, measurement and control instruments in the United States,” according to the company.
Waltham, MA 9/5/07; Baltimore, MD 9/6/07—Thermo Fisher Scientific has acquired the instrument sales business of Davis Inotek Instruments, excluding its related calibration services. The business provides test, measurement and process control instruments through catalogs and e-commerce. It generated 2006 revenues of $30 million. Rebranded as Davis Instruments, the business will join Thermo Fisher’s Cole-Parmer customer channel. “The addition of Davis Instruments is a perfect complement to the Cole-Parmer channel, and will strengthen our ability to meet our customers’ needs through a range of convenient purchasing options,” said Thermo Fisher Scientific President and CEO Marijn E. Dekkers. The remaining calibration business of Davis Inotek will be renamed Davis Calibration. “This transaction is consistent with our strategy to grow the calibration services segment of our business and aligns our instrument sales business with a strategic company that has product channel sales as one of its core competencies and an interest in investing in and growing that part of its business,” stated Lee Rudow, Davis Inotek President and CEO.
