Thermo Sued for Spectroscopy Patent Infringement

According to Spectros, the patent covers solid state, broadband, integrated spectroscopy light sources based on white LEDs technology that are found in its T-Stat product line. The T-Stat is a FDA-approved tissue oximeter.

Portola Valley, CA 5/6/09; Oakland, CA 5/6/09—Spectros, a provider of molecular sensing and imaging devices, has filed a patent infringement suit against Thermo Fisher Scientific in the US District Court for the Northern District of California. Spectros alleges fluorospectrometers sold by Thermo, including the Nanodrop 3300, infringe US Patent No. 6,711,426 (Spectroscopy Illuminator with Improved Delivery Efficiency for High Optical Density and Reduced Thermal Load). Stratos stated that it had previously approached Thermo about the specific infringed claims. Thermo issued no statement.
