ICx Technologies Adds Stride Radionuclide Identification Detection Units and Systems to its Sophisticated Roster of Detection Products

WASHINGTON–ICx Technologies™ (NASDAQ:ICXT – News), a developer of advanced sensor technologies for homeland security, force protection and commercial applications, announced today the release of Stride™ Radionuclide Detection and Identification Systems. Stride Systems are designed to automatically screen people, luggage and packages at critical checkpoints, as well as entries into facilities, to detect the covert movement of special nuclear materials or weapons. These systems are fully automatic, can be linked to the facilities’ current security network and do not require sophisticated interpretation of results. Stride systems can effectively detect and deter one of the most significant security threats by recognizing the presence of radioactive materials in buildings, at large public gatherings or events, at ports, bus or train stations, inside luggage or freight, at stadium entrances or at any other location of potential risk. Depending on the amount of radioactive material present, radionuclides can be detected and properly identified in a few seconds while security personnel are alerted via visible or audible annunciators. “Radiation remains one of our main threats, and the lack of protection for critical facilities and entry points today is troubling,” said Juergen Stein, head of the ICx Radiation business unit. “Stride offers the first automated radiation-detection solution that allows security managers to integrate advanced radiation detectors into their existing infrastructure,” he continued. “Stride has the reliable spectroscopic accuracy of the ICx identiFINDER™,” which is the world’s radiation-technology leader,” added Stein. Stride comes in three versions. The Stride Series 200 detection units have been designed primarily for fixed-wired installations. They can be mounted on walls, above doorways, behind reception desks, behind passport control counters, and above luggage or parcel conveyer belts. The Series 300 Stanchion detection product was designed primarily for pedestrian security installations. This instrument detects and identifies radioactive material and yet looks exactly the same as a standard, crowd-control stanchion. The Series 800 Portal detection units are used to establish a pedestrian portal into secure facilities. They utilize two large detectors and can detect extremely small amounts of radiation and identify the isotope in as few as one to three seconds. All Stride products can immediately categorize radiation as innocent, suspicious or threatening and further identify the radionuclide as medical, industrial, naturally occurring or special nuclear material. Detection units initiate alarms based on dose-rate changes that are above background. The units can be set up with either a wired or a wireless communication to a Local Area Network, and will send a remote alert to other PCs, PDAs and the like insuring a rapid and appropriate response. About ICx Technologies™ ICx Technologies is a leader in the development and integration of advanced sensor technologies for homeland security, force protection and commercial applications.
