Major Cell & DNA Repository Switches to Micronic Sample Storage…

Micronic (www.micronic.com) has received a major 12-month call-off order for sample storage tubes from the Rutgers University Cell & DNA Repository (Piscataway, NJ, USA). After an open evaluation process – Rutgers selected Micronic 0.75 ml and 1.4ml tubes together with coloured TPE caps to provide high integrity, long-term storage of samples at -80° C.

Rutgers University Cell and DNA Repository (RUCDR) plays a key role in research aimed at understanding the genetic causes of common, complex diseases. RUCDR activities will enable gene discovery leading to diagnoses, treatments and, eventually, cures for these diseases. RUCDR assists researchers throughout the world by providing the highest quality biomaterials, technical consultation, and logistical support. RUCDR is the largest university based repository in the world.

Gijsbert van der Gaag, Director of Sales & Marketing commented ‘We are delighted that the RUCDR has chosen Micronic as its preferred supplier for storing its valuable samples’. He added ‘We understand that consistent high quality tubes, proven high integrity sealing performance and reliable delivery of stock were key factors in Micronic’s selection’.

Micronic 0.75ml and 1.4ml sample storage tubes are manufactured from medical grade polypropylene in a fully automated Class 7 cleanroom environment ensuring they exhibit absolute product consistency, near zero contaminants and compliance with US and European Pharmacopoeia tests. The tubes resist many organic solvents (DMSO, methanol, dichloromethane), may be autoclaved clean and can be repeatedly freeze-thawed without loss of product performance.

A unique 2D code on the bottom of each tube provides an easy and unambiguous means of storing and identifying samples. The optimised internal shape of each Micronic sample storage tube ensures the lowest possible dead volume and maximum sample recovery. Designed to fit 96 individual tubes into a standard footprint rack optimises use of valuable freezer space and ensures automation compatibility.

Micronic TPE coloured caps provide single action capping of a single tube, a row of tubes, or a complete 96-tube rack thereby increasing productivity and eliminating the need for additional tube capping systems. Available in a choice of eight different colours, Micronic TPE caps provide a simple, yet highly effective means of visually differentiating stored samples by person, department, project or even by the day of the week they were submitted.

Dedicated to the design and production of innovative sample storage tubes, accessories and instruments over the last 25 years, Micronic is uniquely able to offer laboratories the expert advice to help them safeguard one of its most valuable assets – its samples.
