Smiths Buys Infrared Spectroscopy Company

London, England 4/14/04—Smiths Detection plans to acquire SensIR Technologies for $75 million in cash. SensIR manufactures infrared spectroscopy products, including products for first responders and the military. It is a nine-year-old company based in Danbury, Connecticut with 110 employees and sales of $37 million for the year ending March 2004. Smiths Group Chief Executive Keith Butler-Wheelhouse commented, “The second acquisition for Smiths Detection this year is a further step in building a technology-led business to serve the diverse detection market.” The acquisition is expected to close in May.
