BioWisdom and OmniViz Merge

BioWisdom purchased LION bioscience AG’s bioinformatics business in 2006 (see IBO 5/15/06). Given the amount of data—both scientific and business related—that healthcare companies must be able to assimilate and react to, this merger should be a promising one. OmniViz’s capability to model information in a variety of visual formats will complement BioWisdom’s Sofia software, which analyzes market opportunities and chemical information to assist in the decisions involved in following drug leads.

Cambridge, UK 1/29/07, Maynard, MA 1/29/07 and Columbus, OH 1/29/07—BioWisdom, a developer of software for business information analysis in the healthcare industry, and OmniViz, a company that specializes in software for data visualization, have announced that they will unite under the BioWisdom name. Gordon Baxter, CEO of BioWisdom, said that “this transaction is an important part of our strategy of achieving growth by strong sales performance combined with selective mergers and acquisitions.” Jeff Saffer, the president of OmniViz and now president of BioWisdom’s US operations declared, “The combination of technologies will enable customers to extract greater value from the overwhelming amounts of biomedical information, ultimately leading to improved healthcare.”
