Bruker Acquires Imaging Technology

New York, NY 9/7/16; Valencia, Spain 9/7/16–Bruker has agreed to acquire the preclinical imaging business, including employees, of Oncovision, a medical imaging device firm, for an undisclosed amount. For five years, Bruker and Oncovision have exclusively marketed the Albira PET/SPECT/CT systems. Together, they have also developed the preclinical 3 T Silicon photomultiplier PET/RI system.”The unique, performance-leading SiPM PET technology and products developed by Oncovision in close collaboration with the molecular imaging institute I3M and the University of Valencia, offer outstanding spatial resolution across the full field of view (FOV), increasing the high-resolution FOV by an order of magnitude compared to traditional PET systems, thereby facilitating quantitative imaging investigations,” noted Bruker Preclinical Imaging Division President Dr. Wulf I. Jung. The purchase is expected to close in the fourth quarter.

The sale only involves Oncovision’s in vivo animal imaging business. Bruker inherited the agreement to exclusively sell Oncovision’s Albira system from Carestream Molecular Imaging, which it acquired in 2012 (see IBO 9/30/12).
