Last month, the State Council of China released the details of the five-year National Science and Technology Innovation Plan, which is designed to further progress scientific advancements in China. With the goal of continuing and improving China’s global scientific innovation contributions, the Innovation Plan includes but is not limited to: developing projects to further treat and protect the environment, such as for water and air pollution control; strengthening drug, vaccine and medical R&D, as well as precision medicine technological R&D; improving food manufacturing technologies for greater efficiency and production; accelerating developments in biotechnology, genomics, gene editing techniques and other life sciences sectors; standardizing operating procedures in national labs for greater productivity; and establishing, constructing and developing new public R&D institutions to foster scientific and technological growth.
