Last month, India’s 2015–16 budget was announced. The Ministry of Science Technology would receive INR 9,492 crore ($1,535 million), gaining 22.6% compared with figures from the revised fiscal 2015 budget. Within the Ministry, the Departments of Science and Technology, Biotechnology, and Scientific and Industrial Research would receive INR 3,836 crore ($621 million), INR 1,626 crore ($263 million) and INR 4,031 crore ($652 million), up 32.3%, 14.7% and 17.5%, respectively. The budget of the Department of Agricultural Research and Education would rise 30.5% to INR 6,320 crore ($1,022 million). The Ministry of Health Research would receive INR 1,018 ($165 million), up 9.2%. Funding to the Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy would increase 75.7% to INR 1,214 crore ($196 million), and funds for the Department of Pharmaceuticals would rise 89.0% to INR 259 crore ($41.9 million). The Department of New and Renewable Energy would experience a decrease in funding of 43.6% to INR 313 crore ($50.6 million).
