ITW Adds to Lab Business
Based in Darmstadt, Germany, where it also has a production facility, AppliChem was founded in 1992. The company’s products include reference standards, biochemical compounds, and custom synthesis services for organic and inorganic compounds. It also is a distributor. AppliChem has subsidiaries in the US and Singapore. ITW entered the laboratory chemical business in 2010 with the acquisition of Panreac (see IBO 9/15/10).
Glenview, IL 1/10/12; Berlin, Germany 2/3/12—Illinois Tool Works (ITW) has acquired AppliChem for an undisclosed amount. AppliChem is a German-based chemical supplier focused on fine chemicals and biochemical products for the laboratory, pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food industries. AppliChem will be integrated into the business platform led by the Panreac Quimica business, which is part of ITW’s Performance Polymers & Fluids unit. “AppliChem is going to play a key role in the development of value-added chemicals, reagents and life science products. A process that began in 2010 with the acquisition of Panreac Quimica SLU and Nova Chimica Srl,” stated Panreac General Manager Joan Roget. AppliChem has 130 employees and exports 50% of its products. Former owners Dr. Markus Frasch and Dr. Johannes Oeler will remain with the company as CEOs.
