Tecan Names New CEO

In a December 2011 investors presentation, Tecan stated it that it seeks to expand its Life Sciences business beyond liquid handling and detection in order to grow the business in double digits. Strategic priorities are high-end platforms, distribution alliances, sales in China and Australia, and MS sample preparation. Dr. Martyr‘s experience fits with Tecan’s desire to reach a broader market. A British citizen, Dr. Martyr is 54 years old and holds a doctorate in Engineering from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK.

Männedorf, Switzerland 2/13/12—Tecan has appointed Dr. David Martyr as CEO, following a five-month search (see IBO 10/15/11). He replaces Thomas Bachmann, who will leave the company immediately. Dr. Martyr was most recently vice president at Danaher and group president of Danaher’s Leica Microsystems business, which provides life science instrumentation, microscopy, cancer diagnostic products, medical technologies and imaging systems. He has been responsible for Danaher’s Life Sciences Businesses since 2009. “David Martyr has extensive leadership experience in the life sciences industry and a successful track record in improving the performance of his businesses as well as growing new business opportunities,” stated Rolf Classon, chairman of Tecan’s Board of Directors. He will join Tecan as soon as his current contractual obligations allow, but no later than October 8. Board member Gérard Vaillant will assume CEO duties until that time.
