Johnson Matthey reported that 2013 sales for Alfa Aesar were flat at £79 million ($123 million).

Avantor Performance Materials named Helen Evans as vice president, Laboratory Products, in April. Most recently, she served as general manager, Research Markets, US and Canada, for GE Healthcare.

In May, Avantor Performance Materials appointed Michael Stubblefield as CEO. Most recently, he served as a senior expert for the Chemicals Practice at McKinsey & Company.

Genevac named BioPharma Process Systems as the exclusive UK distributor for its evaporator systems.

Air Liquide acquired UK-based Scientific and Technical Gases, a supplier of calibration and specialty gases and equipment, in May.

Porvair reported that Seal Analytical revenues grew 29% for the fiscal half year ending May 31.

Kuhner Shaker announced in June the opening of a second US location near Boston, Massachusetts.

In August, Kewaunee Scientific opened a 10,000 ft2 facility in Suzhou, China, which is the firm’s first facility in the country.

Product Introductions

In April, Mettler-Toledo released an upgrade of its single- and multichannel Pipet-Lite XLS+ manual and E4 XLS+ electronic pipettes, including liquid ends that can be autoclaved and the new 1200 µL XLS+ multichannel.

Mettler-Toledo introduced in June the new EasyMax 102 (10–100 mL) and 402 (100–400 mL) Basic and Advanced personal synthesis workstations.

Sartorius launched the Entris analytical and precision balances for the most commonly used weighing applications. Available in 15 models, they cover a weighing capacity of 60–8,200 g.

In May, Agilent Technologies introduced the Cary 8454 UV Dissolution System, available in three configurations: multicell-based single apparatus, valve-based single apparatus, and valve-based multiapparatus.

In July, Eppendorf launched the ThermoMixer F0.5 and F2.0 for 0.5 mL and 2.0 mL tubes, respectively.

Asynt released the PressureSyn high-pressure reactor. It features a 125 mL working volume.

Phenomenex announced that it is the exclusive distributor of the Phenova Certified Reference Materials for the calibration of analytical equipment and quantitation of analytical measurements for environmental testing.
