Nobel Laureate Paul Berg, PhD, retired from Affymetrix’s Board in May.

In March, Gentel Biosciences acquired the SilverQuant trademark from Eppendorf. Gentel acquired the rights to the array-based chromogenic detection technology in 2008 for use in protein-detection assay applications.

In June, Microarrays Inc. named three new exclusive distributors: Cambio for the UK and Éire; BioCat for Germany, Austria and Switzerland; and Biosolutions for Greece, Cyprus and the Balkans.

Product Introductions

Arrayjet launched its custom microarray services in February.

Affymetrix introduced the GeneChip miRNA 2.0 Array in February. It encompasses 131 organisms on a single array.

Affymetrix introduced in April the Axiom Genome-Wide CHB1 Array, which maximizes genetic coverage of common alleles in Han Chinese populations.

Affymetrix introduced its second-generation OncoScan FFPE Express platform (formerly MIP Copy Number Service), which is available through Affymetrix Research Services Laboratory.

Affymetrix launched the new Axiom myDesign Targeted Genotyping Arrays, which allow researchers to design custom arrays to genotype between 1,500 and 2.6 million markers per sample.

In May, Affymetrix announced the availability of microarray tools for applied research.

In June, Affymetrix introduced the HG-U133+ PM Array Strip for whole-genome expression analysis for use on its GeneAtlas Personal Microarray System.

Phalanx Biotech Group launched the Rat Whole Genome OneArray, which is comprised of 25,338 long-oligonucleotide probes.

Roche NimbleGen released DEVA software, which automates the feature extraction, primary data analysis and visualization process for its arrays.

In March, BlueGnome announced the release of its CytoChip Cancer array in a low-cost format suited for high-throughput research applications. Eight samples can be screened on a single microarray.

Aushon BioSystems launched the SignaturePLUS Imaging and Analysis System for use with its chemiluminescent protein arrays.

In June, NanoInk introduced the NanoArray Assay System for protein-array deposition and fluorescent detection. It includes the NanoArrayer 3000 , the NanoScan 900 Scanner and software.

Molecular Devices released the GenePix SL50 Slide Loader, with 50-microarray capacity, and GenePix Pro 7.2 software for an accelerated microarray workflow.
