Thermo Fisher Requests Approval to Sell Genevac to Riverlake

In 2005, Riverlake Partners purchased SP Industries, a provider of laboratory glassware and equipment, whose brands include Wilmad/LabGlass and Hotpack. The Genevac purchase will add another strong brand name to Riverlake’s laboratory product holdings as well as a European presence. Genevac is headquartered in Ipswich, England and has approximately 85 employees.

Washington, DC 2/9/07—Thermo Fisher Scientific has filed a petition of approval with the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to sell its centrifugal vacuum evaporators assets to Riverlake Partners and MVC Capital. Thermo Fisher Scientific is required to divest the business within five months as a condition of the FTC’s approval of the merger of Thermo Electron with Fisher Scientific International (see IBO 10/31/06). The FTC is accepting public comment on the proposed sale until March 11, after which it will decide whether to approve the divestiture.
