Vietnam

Although the Vietnamese pharmaceutical industry shows great potential for growth, it is still hampered by structural issues and the high price of generic drugs. Foreign drug makers produce most the generic drugs sold in the country. The industry is growing about 19% annually and consists of 171 companies, 28% of which are GMP certified. The largest companies are DHG Pharmaceuticals, Traphaco and Domesco Medical Import-Export. Longer life expectancy and a growing middle class are positive trends for the industry. However, 30% of the country’s inhabitants do not have health insurance. In addition, most raw ingredients for pharmaceutical manufacturing must be imported.
