Eksigent Technologies Launches NanoLC-2D Proteomics System
Eksigent’s direct pumping nanoscale HPLC system is now available with the added convenience of automated 2-dimensional separations
Livermore, California — Eksigent Technologies, a leader in the field of microfluidics, today announced the introduction of its NanoLC-2D Proteomics System. The NanoLC-2D System is the first HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography) system to incorporate fully automated 2-dimensional HPLC separations with a direct pumping nanoscale HPLC system. The system provides significant enhancements in detection sensitivity and reproducibility for LC/MS proteomics studies, with the added convenience of automatically running 2-dimensional peptide separations, such as the frequently cited MudPIT method. The newly launched NanoLC-2D Proteomics system incorporates Eksigent’s Microfluidic Flow Control (MFC) technology, which uses continuous feedback to an electronically controlled pressure source to maintain precise nanoscale flow rates without flow splitting. Instrument Business Outlook recently recognized the 1-dimensional version of the system, which was launched in 2003, as one of the leading systems for nanoscale chromatography.
The NanoLC-2D system will include a complete line of instruments and consumables. The system includes two binary gradient pump systems, autosampler, first and second dimension injection valves, control software, and separation columns. Dr. Karen Hahnenberger, NanoLC Product Manager, stated, “we are very excited to be launching the NanoLC-2D System. The system is extremely flexible; it can operate in automatic 2D mode, the first channel can be used for rapid sample loading, or both channels can run simultaneously as two completely independent binary gradient systems. In automatic 2D mode, the first dimension separation- typically strong cation exchange- can be run as a step gradient or as a linear gradient. Furthermore, the NanoLC-2D system will include full integration with Thermo Electron’s Xcalibur® mass spectrometer software control.”
According to David Neyer, Ph.D., Technology Development Manager, “2-dimensional HPLC separations provide a significant increase in separation capacity versus 1-dimensional separations. The NanoLC-2D system combines automated 2-dimensional capability with the NanoLC system’s precise nanoscale gradients, simple system operation, elimination of flow splitting, and automatic peak parking capability. This unique set of features makes the NanoLC-2D system ideally suited for multidimensional peptide analysis.”
