Latest version provides more accessible, flexible functionality for population pharmacokinetic modeling

NATICK, Mass. – (11 Mar 2009) The MathWorks today announced the availability of SimBiology 3.0, a tool for modeling, simulating and analyzing biological systems in one integrated, graphical environment. SimBiology 3.0 provides a more intuitive and flexible environment for population pharmacokinetic (PK) modeling and analysis.

SimBiology 3.0 includes a new PK model wizard that offers the ease-of-use of a built-in library without the limitation of pre-defined model libraries. The model wizard automatically generates PK models by specifying only compartment number, route of administration and method of elimination. Users can also import clinical or experimental data, preprocess, visualize and calculate statistics on the data. Population fits can then be performed using methods such as non-linear mixed effects modeling.

Unlike current modeling tools that require cumbersome programming in legacy scripts or are open-source, SimBiology 3.0 provides a straightforward, flexible modeling environment for a complete workflow of PK modeling and analysis. In addition, SimBiology is built on MATLAB, which enables other techniques, such as parallel computing or advanced statistics, to be performed with PK modeling.

Additional enhancements in SimBiology 3.0 include:

• Diagnostic plots for individual and population fitting results;

• Improved graphical and programmatic interfaces;

• Tools for sensitivity analysis and perimeter scans; and

• Stochastic, stiff deterministic and non-stiff deterministic solvers.

“SimBiology 3.0 answers an industry-wide call for increased usability and flexibility in population PK modeling,” said Kristen Zannella, biotech and pharmaceutical industry marketing manager at The MathWorks. “Those users familiar with SimBiology, along with the pharmacokinetic community who has been searching for a more adaptable tool to meet their needs, will now accomplish more in a shorter amount of time with a more complete and intuitive toolset.”

Pricing and Availability

SimBiology 3.0 is available immediately. U.S. list prices start at $3,000 per seat. MATLAB (available separately) is required for SimBiology 3.0 and Statistics Toolbox (available separately) is required for parameter estimating using non-linear mixed effects.
