Orbital Sells Mass Spec Division
Dulles, VA and Windsor Locks, CT – Orbital Sciences has signed a definitive agreement to sell its Sensor Systems Division (SSD) to United Technologies’ Hamilton Sundstrand Space Systems unit for approximately $20 million in cash. SSD, part of Orbital’s Electronics and Sensors Systems Group, manufactures sensors and analytical instruments such as chemical and biological agent detection devices, process analyzers and process mass spectrometers. In 2000, it had revenues of approximately $35 million. Orbital stated that the divestiture was part of its strategy to reduce debt, increase cash and focus on space technology. The sale is expected to close in September.
