Phenomenex Introduces Sorbent for Extraction of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons

Torrance, CA – Phenomenex Inc., a global leader in the research and manufacture of advanced technologies for the separation sciences, announces Strata?-PAH, a new sorbent designed for the isolation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) in environmental samples. Strata-PAH solid phase extraction (SPE) sorbents target these analytes while simultaneously removing humic acids that can interfere with chromatographic separation of environmental samples such as soil and water.

PAHs are byproducts of burning fuel and are an important target because they have been classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic and teratogenic. Found in foods and drinking water, these pollutants are listed with allowable levels and regulated by the EPA under method 550.1. Strata-PAH provides consistent high recoveries of all 16 analytes listed under this method.

“Not only does Strata-PAH produce cleaner extracts but it has also been shown to produce higher recoveries of PAHs than the recommended EPA 550.1 method,” explains Erica Pike, brand manager for Phenomenex. “In addition, Strata-PAH improves baseline resolution.”
