Smiths Detection’s Multi-Mode Threat Detector Meets All TSA Portable Explosive Trace Detection Requirements

Edgewood, MD, – Smiths Detection’s Multi-Mode Threat Detector (MMTD) has passed stringent quality tests carried out by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for portable Explosive Trace Detection (ETD) technologies.

The hand-held MMTD now meets all portable ETD requirements identified in the TSA’s Explosive Trace Detector Functional Requirements Document.

Ted Grant, Smiths Detection’s Director of Sales to TSA, said: “With its advanced threat detection technologies, Smiths Detection enhances the security efforts of airports and governments around the world. MMTD is effective for any airport, port or border that needs a hand-held system to detect a broad range of threats.”

The MMTD is a rugged, portable device used for the rapid detection and identification of explosives, narcotics, toxic industrial chemicals and chemical warfare agents in one system. It can also simultaneously detect and identify explosives and narcotics from a single sample and is capable of remote, unattended operation linked via Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
