Sony DADC BioSciences Sold

Birkenfeld, Germany 6/8/16—STRATEC Biomedical, a provider of automated analyzers, has purchased Sony DADC BioSciences from Sony for approximately €30 million ($34 million = €0.88 = $1). Headquartered in Anif, Austria, with 120 employees, Sony DADC BioSciences provides OEM consumables for diagnostics, life sciences and medical technology applications. For the year ending March 31, Sony DADC BioSciences generated €17 million ($19 million = €0.91 = $1) in sales. “This combination now enables us to offer complete solutions comprising instrumentation, consumables and smart consumables from one single source,” commented Dr. Chris Mauracher, managing director, Sony DADC BioSciences. “From a customer perspective, that reduces the number of contact partners and thus the complexity and process risk.” The acquisition is expected to close by the end of the third quarter.

Sony DADC BioSciences specializes in polymer consumables and injection molding. Two-thirds of Sony DADC BioSciences’ business serves the diagnostics market, according to a STRATEC conference call. Research instrument companies that Sony DADC BioSciences supplies include RainDance Technologies and Singulex.
