ALERT B&C Corporation announces its plan to manufacture and sell the MAB source as a stand-alone product immediately

LAVAL, QC, June 2 /CNW Telbec/ – ALERT B&C Corporation (“ALERT B&C” or the “Corporation”) (TSX Venture Exchange: ACB) announces today its plan to manufacture and sell the MAB source as a stand-alone product that can be retrofitted on all types of mass spectrometers.

ALERT B&C is the developer and manufacturer of Detection & Identification instruments for Biological & Chemical agents, the TRAKER(TM). These Instruments are compact, portable laboratories, which operate in the field providing instantaneous identification and analyses of potential threats. The TRAKER(TM) instruments are based on Mass Spectrometry and incorporate the Corporation’s proprietary Metastable Atom Bombardment “MAB” technology. The MAB ionization source produces ions to be analyzed by the mass spectrometer and is the heart of the instrument.

Given that MAB uses the universal process of Mass Spectrometry supplemented by distinctive attributes, it can be added to all types of Mass Spectrometers for a vast range of applications. For example, Environment Quebec has been using the procedure successfully to solve difficult analytical environmental problems. “MAB is a novel ionisation technique with unique features allowing the simplification of environmental analysis in the area of chlorinated toxins (i.e. dioxins, chlorinated ethers) and analysis of toxin residues in animals such as polar bears. Its ionisation selectivity also allows background reduction by orders of magnitude over existing ionisation techniques thus yielding a better quality signal.” said Serge Moore, Manager, Quebec laboratory for environmental analysis, Operational Analytical Laboratories and Research Support, Water Science and Technology, Environment Canada, and former scientific coordinator and quality control supervisor, Centre d’Expertise en Analyse Environnementale, Environnement Quebec. The MAB Source has not been offered on a commercial basis until now but has been utilized by the University of Paris, U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Proctor & Gamble, Laval University, Fisheries & Oceans – Newfoundland, Fisheries & Oceans – British Columbia, University of Montreal, University of Alberta, National Institute for Research in Agronomy (“INRA”) in Toulouse, France, Environment Canada, Imperial Oil Research Centre in Sarnia, Ontario, Centre d’Etudes du Bouchet, France, and Berkley University. This innovative ionization technology incorporates the advantages of other conventional ionization methods while substantially reducing their limitations in terms of time of analysis and accuracy.

This product is now available and is compatible with thousands of instruments already in the field. The sales of the MAB source are expected to provide the Corporation with short term revenues accelerating growth and production capacity. “Short term revenues were a critical goal of ALERT B&C’s management when we developed our new strategic plan. The use of our proprietary MAB technology within the numerous prestigious organizations listed above gives us great confidence in its contribution to superior detection of Biological and Chemical threats going forward,” said Kurt Soost, President & CEO of ALERT B&C.

It is the view of the Corporation that seeing the applications of MAB on a multitude of recognized instruments (Thermo Fisher Scientific, Agilent, etc.) will also bring credibility to the TRAKER(TM) in the eyes of the public in view of the fact that the TRAKER(TM) was designed specifically around the MAB source. This enhanced credibility with organizations, corporations and individuals worldwide is expected to have additional benefits to ALERT B&C through increased TRAKER(TM) unit sales.

In view of the high level of improvement the MAB source can offer to public safety through a myriad fields relying on Mass Spectrometry, and the demands that have been forwarded to ALERT B&C by a number of individuals and organizations, the Corporation has determined that manufacturing the MAB source for sale as a stand-alone product will be beneficial not only to ALERT B&C and the BioDefence industry as a whole, but also to the Life Science industry and to government agencies such as Health Canada, Environment Canada, and others.

Dr. Michel Bertrand, Mr. Kurt Soost, and ALERT B&C are currently attending the 56th ASMS Conference on Mass Spectrometry in Denver, Colorado exposing the MAB Source to a number of major players.
