AMETEK Acquires EDAX

Paoli, PA-AMETEK has acquired EDAX, a manufacturer of energy dispersive X-ray microanalysis instrumentation, from Panta Electronics for $37 million. EDAX specializes in energy dispersive x-ray fluorescence systems as well as other instruments for the identification and quantification of elemental composition and solid material structures. In 2000, EDAX recorded sales of $34 million. AMETEK stated that the acquisition would strengthen its line of instruments for physical properties measurement of solid material and give it access to crystallography technology. EDAX will become part of AMETEK’s Electronic Instruments Group’s Process & Analytical Instruments Division. The Electronic Instruments Group posted revenue of $510 million in 2000.
