New Brochure for the Proteros Free Mounting System
The Woodlands, TX – Rigaku/MSC, Inc. today announced the publication of a Brochure that describes the newly introduced Proteros Free Mounting System™ (FMS). This four page document provides both an overview of capabilities as well as basic specifications. In addition to schematics illustrating product layout, the document describes routine operation of the instrument and provides a variety of examples illustrating performance. Titled “Free Mounting System™: Macromolecular Crystal Optimization Tool for Dramatically Improving Crystallographic Data Quality,” the brochure provides guidance for crystallographers seeking to either increase their productivity or rescue difficult crystal specimens. FMS represents a significant advance in that it can dramatically improve the quality of X-ray crystallographic data obtained for macromolecular structure determination. The system allows very accurate control of protein crystal water content, enabling the ability to greatly improve diffraction behavior of difficult crystals. Suitable for both beamlines and home lab applications, benefits include: resolution, mosaicity, and anisotropy optimization, improved cryo-protocols, as well as reduced X-ray background. Free Mounting System™ is an integrated solution for optimization of protein crystals used in the collection of X-ray crystallographic data. Used in real-time conjunction with an X-ray diffractometer system, a protein crystal is mounted in a cryo-loop at room temperature and positioned in the center of a stream of gas for which the humidity and temperature are precisely controlled and adjustable. In this system, it is then possible to manipulate the crystal in different ways and simultaneously analyze diffraction behavior so as to optimize the crystal for the best possible diffraction resolution.
